Press Release #1 – HOSPITABLE Project Sets Out to Strengthen the Cybersecurity and Resilience of Hospitals and Healthcare Providers Across Europe
Contributing to patient safety and continuity of care

Luxembourg, 20 August, 2026 – As healthcare organisations across Europe face increasing cyber threats, including ransomware attacks, data breaches, and supply chain vulnerabilities, the need for stronger cybersecurity and operational resilience has never been greater. In response, HOSPITABLE was officially launched on 1 June 2026 to develop a modular, interoperable, and scalable cybersecurity platform designed to strengthen the security and continuity of hospitals and healthcare providers.
HOSPITABLE project (Holistic Secure Platform for Intelligent Threat Awareness and Business-continuity in Trusted Adaptive HEalthcare environments) is a two-year initiative running until May 2028. Coordinated by UNISYSTEMS Luxembourg SARL, the project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of 12 organisations from seven European countries to address the growing cybersecurity challenges facing the healthcare sector. Co-funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) through the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), HOSPITABLE has a total budget of €7.94 million and an EU contribution of €3.97 million.
By uniting leading healthcare providers, cybersecurity specialists, technology companies, research organisations, and public authorities, HOSPITABLE aims to enhance cybersecurity preparedness, protect sensitive health data, and safeguard the continuity of critical healthcare services. The project seeks to help healthcare organisations prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from cyber threats through an integrated ecosystem combining advanced cybersecurity technologies, compliance support, training services, and decision-making tools.
At the core of the platform is an AI-powered Security Operations Centre (SOC) incorporating advanced SIEM and SOAR capabilities for real-time threat detection, automated incident response, and forensic logging. Additional components include a Privacy and Compliance Centre supporting GDPR, NIS2, EHDS, and AI Act requirements, a Zero-Trust Identity Management Framework, a Training and Awareness Centre with role-based and gamified cybersecurity exercises, and risk and cost assessment tools supporting evidence-based cybersecurity investments.
Over the coming months, HOSPITABLE will validate its solutions through three pilot sites in Greece, Italy, and Spain, representing diverse healthcare environments, infrastructures, and levels of cybersecurity maturity. These pilot deployments will demonstrate practical, scalable, and cost-effective approaches to strengthening cyber resilience across European healthcare systems.
The project aims to deliver measurable improvements in:
● Real-time cyber threat detection and incident response;
● Vulnerability management and risk assessment;
● Regulatory compliance readiness;
● Cybersecurity awareness among healthcare professionals;
● Identity and access management;
● Operational resilience and business continuity of healthcare services.
By combining cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies with compliance automation, workforce training, and operational resilience measures, HOSPITABLE seeks to transform cybersecurity from a technical requirement into a strategic enabler of safer, more resilient, and more trusted healthcare services.
The project directly supports the objectives of the DIGITAL-ECCC-2025-DEPLOY-CYBER-08 CyberHEALTH call and contributes to the implementation of the EU Action Plan on Cybersecurity in Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.
